9 months later
It's been 9 months since Ben's surgery his ear looks so much better. Unfortunately we are having some problems. His ear started swelling about 1 month ago for no reason. I noticed a pocket on his ear that looked like a burn that was bluish in color. We took him to Dr. Reinisch he didn't know why it was swelling but said he did feel his implant and it was slipping. The implant consist of two pieces and they are not supposed to move. He said that sooner or later we needed to have it replaced but it was not something that needed to be dealt with right away. We have been keeping an eye on it and noticed it started to drain so we called the Dr. He said he didn't like that it was draining and prescribed us some antibiotics because it meant there was an infection. So here we are a week later and it is still draining he is done with the antibiotics. Well we found out his implant is exposed right where that bluish colored pocket is. And it is getting bigger. Dr. Reinisch said we will have to replace the implant and he didn't know why it got infected. We are hoping the gap will heal. We will see him again on Monday Nov. 17th.

I hope all goes well with the second medpor surgery. My son had medpor done with Dr. Lewin March 2010. We also live in California. I wanted to say thank you for sharing your post, it is always good to hear the good and bad with any of these surgeries and reminds me to keep an eye on Trey's new ear. I am sad about your first experience and hope that things will once again be good.
